Arranger Aaron T. Smith has prepared this composition for chamber ensemble.
This arrangement features the 1st clarinet or soprano saxophone as the lead instrument. This part is essentially a solo feature.Reduced instrumentation could be done with just the first flute and 1st. clarinet part along with the piano. The flute parts serve as accompaniment parts to the primary part of clarinet 1 or soprano saxophone.
This delightful tune comes from one of the Russian master’s lesser known operas, The Queen of Spades. This should not concern performer or audience though, as the composition is a separate song within the opera and unrelated to the storyline. At this moment in the opera, several characters sit around the piano while the heroine and her best friend sing the duet. Usually, the piano is played on stage.
